Colorado-born microscopy company will bring manufacturing, research and customer demonstration capabilities closer to one of Colorado’s largest concentrations of biomedical researchers
AURORA, Colo. – October 21, 2026 – Intelligent Imaging Innovations (3i), a Colorado-based developer and manufacturer of advanced microscopy systems, is relocating its headquarters to Bioscience 3 at Fitzsimons Innovation Community. The move is already underway, with the full build-out of the company’s new headquarters expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The approximately 10,000-square-foot custom-built facility will house 3i’s manufacturing, research and development, sales, support and service operations within walking distance of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, home to the company’s largest concentration of customers in Colorado.
Founded in 1995, 3i develops turnkey microscopy systems for basic and translational research, including spinning disk confocal, multiphoton and lightsheet microscopy systems and its SlideBook software platform.
A New Home Closer to the Science
The new headquarters includes an upgraded wet lab adjacent to 3i’s demonstration lab, allowing visiting researchers to prepare and maintain biological samples while evaluating systems under research conditions. Customers travel to Colorado from across North America and internationally for demonstrations, and Fitzsimons’ proximity to Denver International Airport provides convenient access while placing those interactions within a concentrated life sciences community.
“Moving to Fitzsimons puts us much closer to the scientists and research happening at Anschutz, including many researchers who already use our systems. That proximity creates opportunities to collaborate more closely, better support our customers and continue developing technologies around the needs of the scientific community,” says Bill Fester, 3i’s vice president of business development.
“3i is exactly the kind of company we want to help grow at Fitzsimons because its technology supports the scientific discovery happening across this campus and far beyond it,” says Kelly Brough, president and CEO of Fitzsimons Innovation Community. “Bringing the people who design and manufacture these imaging systems closer to the researchers who use them creates opportunities to solve problems faster, strengthen collaboration and accelerate innovation.”
3i has grown from a Colorado startup into an international company with operations in the United States, Europe and Asia. Across three decades, the company has worked with eight Nobel laureates through its microscopy systems, software and research collaborations.
Approximately 25 employees are expected to work from the Fitzsimons headquarters, with the team projected to grow to 30 to 35 employees over time.
